Today the difference is not in the technologies but in the innovation of the solutions

It is a reality that the pandemic has accelerated the process of digitization in the business environment, what do you consider to have been the main changes that have occurred globally?

GD: Perhaps the most significant fact has been that companies have suddenly realised that technology is a basic business service that is essential for the operation and continuity of their businesses in a Digital Economy environment.

Having a digital strategy in your company was already a competitive advantage. What role are ICT playing in this Covid-19 context? Are technologies a key driver of future economic recovery?

GD: Technologies have made it possible to move offices to homes at times when our physical presence in them was not possible, web services have multiplied and the companies in the sector have been there to provide continuity to businesses, industry, companies, schools, hospitals, etc. The

ICT sector became an essential activity and our professionals have kept systems running, expanded their capabilities, offered connectivity solutions between equipment, etc. I believe that the sector’s response has been up to the task and it was clear that it was necessary for people to be properly trained in the use of devices and applications that allow them to carry out their work and offer it to their clients.

Economic recovery will require companies in all sectors of activity to undertake a profound process of digital transformation, which cannot be postponed if we want to continue to make progress as an economy and society and respond to the challenges posed by a global and digital economy.

The uncertainty that has been imposed can be an obstacle to digitization, how do you see it, would others highlight?

GD: It should not be, the uncertainty comes from the fact that we really thought that the recovery of the COVID would be a “V” and it has not been like that and it is taking longer than expected, but it should in no way distract us from the necessary process that companies must undertake without forgetting that people must be at the centre of the process and they must be trained for it.

The Internet has become for many companies the only platform that provides them visibility and technology as their ally to give continuity to their businesses, what solutions or technologies do companies have at their disposal to move towards digital transformation and be more productive and competitive? Could you mention some examples or real cases?

GD: Each business has specific needs and appropriate solutions, we can say that for companies, data is the gold mine and we must give it the value it has, applying intelligence to data is essential to improve your business, know what your customers want, how they value your products and project your growth, to give easy to understand examples.  Ecommerce, artificial intelligence, sensorisation, 3D printing, Virtual Reality, robotics, etc., without forgetting the training of professionals to know and apply these solutions and the cybersecurity layer to advance while minimising risks.

Conetic participates, as leader, in the transnational project GAMELabsNET, what similarities and differences can you highlight between the ICT sectors of the three participating countries, Spain, France and Portugal?

GD: Today the difference is not in the technologies but in the innovation of the solutions that apply these technologies and in this sense I believe that the three participating countries have companies that have specialised in sectors of activity and that is where these differences lie. The interest of all the partners is to share experiences that enrich the companies and allow them to continue developing new products for new sectors and markets and of course to bring these solutions, based on visual intelligence technologies,3D, augmented, virtual, mixed reality and gamification solutions,to the companies and user industries.

GD: GameLabsNet has focused on the application of these traditional video game technologies to the business world, aware of how useful they are: simulators, digital twins, much more intuitive and faster learning processes for operators and professionals in the industry and the company, or augmented reality to bring the product closer to its customers to give some examples. These technologies open up a world of applications to multiple sectors, today they are used by large companies so it is essential to bring them to SMEs and that is one of the main objectives of this GameLabsNet initiative.

What services will the Transnational Network of Demonstration Centers (Labs) of Videogame Technologies and Gamification of GAMELabsNET make available to SMEs?

GD: The proposal of GameLabsNet is to provide services to the companies that develop the offer and to the users of the demand, initially we will provide training services, demonstrators of solutions, pilots of new products, organisation of all kinds of events specially sectorised to approach in a natural way to the businesses and business advice to then gradually expand the services according to the demand of the companies and the needs of the users.  The Laboratory must be a facilitator of knowledge of technology and must facilitate its implementation in companies.

The laboratory will be virtualised in order to provide all services through physical presence but also virtually when the situation so requires.

Finally, what advice would you give to companies in general, and to companies in the ICT sector in particular?

GD: We are at an important time for companies to tackle change processes that allow them to take advantage of the benefits of the digital economy, but this process must be carried out with the support of the technology sector, because they are the experts who can help guide companies on the most appropriate solution. Even if a company is small, it should consider what its roadmap is and start by addressing the most critical processes in its business in order to gradually move forward.  GameLabsNet has designed the labs to facilitate this approach from the user sectors of the technologies to the solution providers and we have done so by starting with technologies that bring great value to the business and are easy to adopt. We do not want to leave any company behind.
